 SERAP Sues Nigeria Electoral Body, INEC Over Failure To Prosecute Electoral Offenders In Bayelsa, Kogi, Imo In the suit, SERAP argues that there should be accountability for the grave electoral offences in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) "over the failure to arrest and prosecute suspected perpetrators of grave electoral offences in the recently concluded off-cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states." This follows the need to fill the vacancies left by court orders, resignations, and death. INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, dropped the hint during a recent meeting with leaders of political parties. Professor Yakubu revealed that the courts, after the end of legal battles, instructed the commission to conduct rerun elections in 34 federal and state constituencies.
